The “Personal Brand of the Month” goes to…

Each month I give my verdict on who has shown the world the strongest and most attractive brand. My latest personal brand of the month goes to…

Kate Moss

Here’s why:
Kate Moss has dazzled us this past month by expanding her brand into an entirely new direction, the world of interior design. By teaming up with Yoo, the architecture and design company co-founded by property mogul John Hitchcox and French designer Philippe Starck, she has designed the interiors for The Barnhouse, part of a ‘luxury second homes’ development in the Cotswolds, UK. “The interiors have been carefully considered by Kate – a displaced glamour within the woods – creating a juxtaposition of traditional elegance and modern design,” said the firm in a statement.

“Set in the heart of the Cotswolds, within its own secluded one-acre plot of private woodland, the new five-bedroom home is a retreat away from the bright lights of the city and catwalk scene,” said the firm of “The Barnhouse with interiors by Kate Moss”.

And it fits Kate’s personal brand beautifully.

Kate loves the countryside, particularly the Cotswolds, where she has her own country house. She explained in an interview, “John and I became friends through our love for the English countryside (and the pub). When he told me about The Barnhouse in the middle of the silver birch wood I was intrigued and then excited to become part of the design team. We have created a luxurious haven in the woods, a perfect place to escape with family and friends.”

Moss’s signature is evident throughout. “It’s so me,” she explains. It includes bespoke and hand-crafted furniture by her craftsman, artwork by friends Damien Hirst and The Chapmans, and rock and roll touches throughout, including photos of Elvis, Bob Dylan and Sid Vicious. There are of course a few photographs of Moss scattered throughout the house. Buyers certainly won’t forget who designed their home.

So here’s to Kate Moss, for expanding her career (and doing some amazing co-branding in the process) while still being true to her personal brand.
